How Blessed To Share !

Meet Princess and Her Momma

I'm looking forward to this January
when I return to Grand Goave Haiti.
I really hope that I can see Princess
again and Praise God for her and
her family!

In the meantime -- here are some things I'm
sending off to Minnesota -- From there
they will go to Port-au-Prince, Haiti
for Heartline Ministries.  I'm excited
that this ministry to newborns and their
Mommas will be blessed by what
I'm able to create here at home.
 Layette items
 Taggie Blankets
 Receiving Blankets
Fun Hats

I'm so glad that my friend Jen introduced me to
this ministry through her blog.  What an
age of technology that helps us connect
across the Globe !!

It's a new day . . . . .

I don't believe I will ever have a lot to say in words,
but I know I will have much to say with my hands.

Although . . . .
"When my world is shaking, heaven stands
When my heart is breaking
I never leave your hands"

My presence at SILK is moving to something
in the past -- it's in VERY GOOD hands with Laura --
and I'm off to something new, whatever that is.

I have much to say with my hands and needles -
sewing, knitting, crocheting -- so my voice
will be heard wherever the Lord sends
my handiwork.

Stay tuned as I too watch and see where, how, what . . . . . :) !!

A Well-Deserved Thank You !

About 10 years ago, Etta Howard was inspired by her visit to
Grand Goave, Haiti.  She wanted to do more - she wanted
to make an impact on the children there.
SOS - Sewing on Saturday was born - by way of
Etta's rec room at her mobile home court.
That first Saturday, about 10 women came and
began a ministry that has provided an estimated
3,500-4,000 dresses, shorts, shirts and baby
quilts for Haiti and local outreach.
A few years back, SOS become SILK and continues
on with women who are passionate about doing
what we can from where we are.

SILK continues to meet once a month -
we quickly moved to BCC for more space.
Etta's inspiration lives on in Room C212 :) !!

Sunday, June 17 the ladies of SILK honored
Etta for this answer to His Call on her all those
years ago.   We are so grateful to Marie Cook
who took on this gift of love from SILK - a gift of
a beautiful hand-made quilt for Etta to enjoy
for many years to come.

We Love You, Etta!
And we are so proud to have worked
along side of you, sharing our love
of sewing in a way that shares the Love
of our Savior with our Sisters across the world!

Breaking for Summer - Not Really!

We had a wonderful turn out this past Saturday -
our final session before taking July and August off.
Well, not really - we prepared many items
to be stitched up over the summer!

Here is Alice who came for the first time ---
for those of you who have told me "I really want
to come, just keep forgetting" -- Alice actually
came!  And she cut out several dresses - so glad to have her!

We have an abundance of quilts cut out and ready to
sew -- many were taken home this day.
About 20 of them will be delivered this week
to local Pregnancy Resource Centers!

Even though this is really out of focus -- I couldn't
resist posting any way!  You can see our dear
Roberta (you know, recently "evicted" from
hospice care) -- she looks pretty intimidating
with that batting roller!  We just love, love
that her family makes sure she can come !
What a joy == true joy!!

Our work crew on this day --
what a wonderful team of women
serving local mothers as well as
families in Haiti.
Thank you Lord - Merci Jesus!!

So, our story continues over the summer --
machines will continue to run and hands
continue to work for the Lord.

HAITI CHILDREN'S HOME UPDATE:
We are gathering information and more
details on the quilt project -- not all 77 quilts
need to be made right away as the building
will go up in phases.

Stay tuned for further word on this!

God Bless You All !
Bondye beni ou tout !  (creole)

Let the Fun Begin !!

Here is Gretchen DeVoe (Lifeline co-founder) breaking
ground on the Children's Home in Grand Goave, Haiti.
In about a year, 77 children will have a home
where they will be cared for and loved.

And here is Bob DeVoe (the other half of the founders)
participating in the ceremony as well.

It was a wonderful day - many of the locals came
and helped celebrate the beginning of a wonderful
home for these beautiful children!

SILK will now begin the long-awaited task of creating
beautiful quilts for the beds in this children's home.
Please pray that all of the details will come together
and we will have the quilts made and shipped in time
for them to be in place at the right time.

We are blessed so that we will hopefully be a Blessing!

Fun and Exciting !!

So today we had some visitors -- "Liz" came by
representing another sewing ministry with a whole lot
of batting for our baby quilts!
Just when we needed more -- Thanks, Lord!

As well, Andrea and Sue came by as they are interested
in starting a ministry similar to SILK at their own church!
It's kind of like we're starting a "Daughter SILK" like
a Daughter-Church!  Again, Thanks, Lord!!

And our friend Janie brought in some dresses that she
made that are ----- REVERSIBLE (Revesib in Creole)

We added a tag in both languages so they know
this super fun feature of the dress :) !!

Then, another bunch of layette gift bags
were filled -- 16 more -- now 30 in all!

Thanks to the tip jar in the BCC Coffee Shop,
we now have the funds to send these layettes to
Ohio to get on a container to Haiti -- in
the hands of New Mothers in no time!
Once more, Thanks, Lord !!

And to top it all off --
We had a Banner Day of Inventory!
What came in just today:
Dresses -- 45
Skirts -- 31
Shorts -- 14
Quilts -- 5

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks, Lord !!

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

Here is a plea -- help us help Moms and Babies!

For the months of February and March we are collecting items for the layettes we distribute
locally as well as in Haiti.  Help us to love on these new moms and babies!

For the BABIES we need:
travel-size hygiene items (shampoo, lotion, powder, baby wipes), onesies, baby socks,
bags of cotton balls, packages of q-tips.

For the MOMS we need:
Jewelry (new), perfume, travel-size hygiene (shampoo, conditioner, lotion), fancy scarves

These are the ONLY NEEDS we have at this time.  They will be combined with hand-made items from the SILK ladies.  Place your items in the SILK Box in the BCC atrium on Sundays or during the week.

Thank you for helping this ministry reach out with God’s hands of love!
